APA Establishes Assessment Psychology Section within Clinical Division

January, 2010

There's a new home within the American Psychological Association (APA) for clinical psychologists interested in assessments. The Society of Clinical Psychology (APA Division 12) recently formed Section IX (Assessment Psychology) to promote quality and excellence in assessment research, training, and practice.

One of the first to join, Steve Griffin, Chief Psychologist for IPAT Public Safety and Security Services, encourages others to sign-up, noting that, "Without a home for applied psychological testing, we would have no place to collaborate, create, and effectively challenge our knowledge of the psychometrics of today, tomorrow, and the future of applied psychology. Within Division 12, we now have a place to nurture our ideas and build stronger ties within APA and with other psychologists."

Membership benefits include:

  • Annual subscription to the journal Assessment to help you stay current with the latest applied assessment research
  • Access to the Section IX listserv
  • Low annual dues ($30 for members and $20 for graduate students).

To join, contact Dustin Wygant, Ph.D., Membership Chair for Section IX of Division 12, at dbwygant@gmail.com or 859.622.1105.
